Social Media Experiment for the 2008 Election

Anyone else out there frustrated with the media bias of the presidential campaigns? Tired of hearing people regurgitate the spin they’re fed, and worrying that they’ll really vote based on it? Wonder why there isn’t an easier way for voters to educate themselves?
We can’t let the speech writers, spin, news, blogs, and rumor mill determine who is chosen for president.
I’d like to build a site that will serve to educate voters about where candidates stand on specific issues, provide information to either confirm or refute the claims made, and allow the voters to see how the candidate’s promises will truly affect them personally. It could include a questionnaire to find out where they stand on the issues and how each candidate’s policies will affect them personally, both economically and socially. It would be a strictly non-partisan effort, and I’m looking for volunteers to help out. The more people that get involved, the more we can divide and conquer and make a difference.
I’d like to see how quickly we could bring together a matrixed team to build a website that will help the American people make a more informed decision for president. I realize that there are sites that have some of these elements out there, such as procon.org, selectsmart.com, dontvote.org, pew etc, but I don’t feel that any of them tie it all together in a way that compels people to get the facts. The site should be fun or engaging in some way, with a possible viral streak (think JibJab). I would like it to be easy to use and have a great user experience. If there’s anything like this out there that I don’t know of, let me know!
Anyone interested in joining this effort, please contact me. I’d like to pull together a team to begin working on this in the next week or so. With enough people, we can get this developed, or at least rolling with some great momentum, in a weekend. With successes like Air events, Startup weekend, and BarCamp I know it’s possible! We can meet virtually as well as in person in San Antonio and can have people call in via Adobe Connect.
Once it’s built, I’d like to use the power of social networks, word of mouth, and internet marketing to see if we can get lots of traffic to it!
